Quilts: The Fabric of War 1760–1900

The Annette Gero Collection of Quilts made from military fabrics | 15 February – 18 May 2024 - Ticketed Exhibition

Historical quilts with striking geometric patterns, exotic animals, biblical stories, and even the Venetian state galley are but a few of the extraordinary images you will see displayed in this exhibition from the renowned quilt collection of Annette Gero. Using brightly coloured military fabrics from eighteenth and nineteenth century uniforms these rare patchwork quilts were made by men. Some during military service and others sewn after the tailors or soldiers returned home. Through their fabrics even though the maker’s name has been lost to time they reveal service in the Napoleonic wars, Crimean war, and British India.

This exhibition reveals new and unseen treasures from the private collection of Annette Gero, and includes quilts acquired in Australia and internationally. An Adelaide-exclusive exhibition not to be missed.
