Book: Treasure Ships exhibition catalogue

Held at the Art Gallery of South Australia from 13 June to 30 August 2015, the much celebrated Treasure Ships: Art in the Age of Spices was the first exhibition in Australia to examine the complex artistic and cultural interactions between Europe and Asia from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries – a period known as the Age of Spices. This book by exhibition curators James Bennett and Russell Kelty includes 18 essays on a variety of topics related to these interactions including chapters on Islam and the West, Chinoiserie in Europe, and Britain and India, as well as early European contacts with Australia, plus a full catalogue of items on display in Treasure Ships.
