Julian was appointed an Officer in the Order of Australia (AO) in the 2024 Australia Day Honours for ‘distinguished service to the museum and arts sector, and to conservation and the environment’.
Julian joined the TDRF Board in 2016 and became Chair in 2018.
Julian is CEO of International Conservation Services, the Australia wide conservation company he founded in 1986. A conservator by training, Julian has spent his career immersed in the cultural heritage field, with a particular interest in house museums.
He is currently the President of IIC (International Institute for the Conservation of historic and artistic works) and the President of ADFAS (Australian Decorative and Fine Art Societies).
He has been on the boards of the National Trust of Australia (NSW), AICCM (Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Material), the Furniture History Society and Eryldene Historic House, Gordon, NSW. He has also been President of the International Polar Heritage Committee of ICOMOS (International Council for Monuments and Outdoor Sites).
Julian holds a MA (Hons) in Theology from Oxford University. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts and a Fellow of the International Institute for Conservation.
